About

Jack & Dick’s Feed & Garden, Inc.

In the late 1970s, local business minds Jack Isley and Dick McCann were working at Case Feed in downtown Janesville. They decided they wanted to break away and start their own company, so they started Jack & Dick’s in a small warehouse along Jackson Street. Early on, the store was located down the street from the warehouse.

In 1984, a fire ravaged the warehouse, so Isley and McCann used the insurance money they obtained from the fire to build a new, 8,000-square-foot building and combine the storefront and warehouse into the building currently in operation at 975 S. Jackson Street, Janesville.

Sixteen years later, in 2000, Ed and Mary Hookham purchased the business. Ed Hookham was a former employee at Case Feed, and, like Isley and McCann, had a dream to own and operate his own business. In 2012, Ed and Mary’s oldest son, Matt, joined the business as store manager.

Today the company is a thriving, small business selling water softener salt, pet food, birdseed, animal feed and de-icing salt. The primary business territories served include southern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. As the business continues to grow, all staff members are reminded how many talented, dedicated and knowledgeable staff members are part of the Jack & Dick's family.
